It’s a Tuesday night in NYC and 4th of July is the next day. Pre holiday nights are always especially fun in NYC as everyone love to take advantage of an extra weeknight out since they don’t have to go to work the next day. An old friend of mine Nima Yamini is spinning a “Dinner Party” at the new Restaurant Lounge RSVP from nightlifer Jon B (Formerly of Home, Guesthouse, Greenhouse & Juliet). I had previously been to the friends and family soft open but had yet to eat there.
I invited some of my favorite old friends along with me for the night. We arrived around 10 and Nima had just got on the decks. The space at RSVP was really beautiful and we stopped at the bar and had a cocktail while our table was prepared.
While we were waiting a in house magician John Born performed a few up close magic tricks for us. He was really cool and his style was pretty interesting. However, one of my good friends from college was a magician and pretty much spoiled most tricks for me because he used to practice on me.
We we’re finally seated an I must say the service was excellent. Our servers were very hands on and quick to service any request we might have. The magician stopped by our table yet again and performed another trick for our group.
Everyone really enjoyed the Tempura Rock Shrimp appetizer. As we were finishing our first course I noticed a girl sitting at an adjacent table was wearing a That Madonna Girl “Halo.” (Buy yours HERE) I instantly tweeted at her about it. She retweeted it and demanded a photo. Literally 2 minutes later the promoter who they were with James tweeted at me to say hello. I introduced myself and It turned out it was one of her friends. The power of social media! lol
This city really is so small and there so many intersecting circles. You could literally play the six degrees of Kevin Bacon game with anyone you see out and it will come back to you some how.
Our main course arrived and I was ready to eat some more. I’m a huge truffle fanatic and their Truffle Mussroom pizza did not disappoint. It had a great mix of Goat cheese, mascarpone, Sheep’s milk ricotta to go with the truffle oil.
At this point Nima was reaching the end of his set and we were ready to go to The BOX. If you have never been here before be warned it is not for the conservative or easily offended. It is a no hold barred assault on your sense of decency. So continue reading at your own risk. (Also you are not really allowed to take photos at the box. The ones shown here are ones I stole off a girl that was there’s twitter account. Plus,it’s more to protect the performers who can be nude at times privacy. None of the photos shown here feature any performers in this state.)
We got to The Box and joined a table on the balcony which would come in handy later. Most of the girls I was with were lesbian couples, they invited more lesbian couples and our table was literally filled with them. It was interesting experience to have a table full of hot girls who literally are not interested in you physically in the slightest.
We had a few drinks and around one am the first show started. Their usual MC who had recently been transported to the London incarnation of The Box was back. They opened the show with a song and dance number I had seen a couple times before.
The next performer was this chick who ate something I couldn’t really make out. Then pulled something else out of her “box” and ate it. lol Next they had this cool cirque de sole type performer who climbed up bands in the middle of the space and became increasingly more undressed as the performance went on. It was really cool.
Then the next performance could possibly one of the best things I’ve ever witnessed at The Box. Again if you are easily offended please stop reading now.
Miss Rosewood a burlesque legend and their resident transexual performer was up next. He/she is known for doing some of the most outlandish shit. She/he recently made Page 6 for vomiting on Susan Sarandon at a performance. He came out in a school girls outfit and started drinking big gulps of vodka and spitting it onto the crowd. After that he started cutting all his clothes off. When his “rosewood” was revealed he appeared to start urinating on the crowd. From my view from the balcony it was hilarious people were literally climbing over each other to get out of his range. It was absolute pandemonium.
Though I’m pretty sure he was wearing some sort of apparatus that made it appear as if he was urinating and it was probably just water. However, most people couldn’t tell and the reaction was priceless. Par for the course on what you could expect from The Box. After everyone calmed down from that outrageous incedent they had a cool performance by this magic couple who kept changing outfits. Then they had a human disco ball dancing and doing acrobatics to the soundtrack provided by DJ Felix The Housecat.
It hit 2am and I decided to call it a night. I wanted to be up early to catch some rays at the beach. However, it was another night that you could only have in a great city like this one. Truly an unforgettable experience… especially for a Tuesday.
