Monday nights are limited as far party options. On top of that, most of what’s out there is the usual top 40, hip hop centric parties. Well scensters looking for something different. Rejoice. Avenue A Soundcheck at Double Seven is just what you need to break the monotony that plagues much of NYC nightlife.
After a having a few drinks at Magnum Mondays I headed over to Double Seven. I had just read the NY Post in which they named Avenue A Soundcheck one of the summer best party’s. So I came in with high expectations. (Read that HERE) The crowd was the perfect mixture think downtown scene edge mixed with the sexiness and sophistication of MPD. The room was filled with a who’s who of the NYC scene Jermaine Dupri, Miles Robbins, Maggio Cipriani and many others were all in attendance. Nima Yamini and DJ Whoo Kid have put together a truly original NYC experience.
The live performances started with “The Attic Ends” an up and coming indie rock band that describes their sound as “Dream Pop.” The talented and sexy Samantha Rex wowed the crowd with her lead vocals.
Though the real highlight of the night for me was an unannounced performance by Chris Webby an extremely buzzed about new artist with over 33 million hits on youtube.
DJ Whoo Kid and noted hip hop producer Ski Beats kept the crowd moving in between sets with an eclectic selection of, old school hip hop, classic rock and sprinkling of light house music. This is quickly becoming my favorite party of the week.
Expect a more thorough piece about this event including interviews with its founders to come soon.
